SARAH HILLER
President

Sarah Hiller was born and raised in Muskogee, Oklahoma, and has been fortunate to be able to live, study, and work in many different countries. At one point, Sarah knew five languages, but, without practice, she has noticed a significant decline in her abilities. Her French is still active, however, as she is married to a Frenchman and keeps a bilingual household.

Sarah has a bachelor’s degree in Chinese Language and a master’s degree in Public Administration. She has worked in the nonprofit, government, small family, and corporate sectors and is now Director of Operations at a nonprofit that provides fiscal sponsorships for projects in Washington State.

Sarah believes that exposure to languages and cultures is important and transformative, especially at an early age. She also believes in the strength of the Montessori teaching method and appreciates how it is being used in conjunction with the French curriculum at Les Lilas. She is honored to be Board president for Les Lilas French Bilingual Community School.

WHAT PETS DID YOU HAVE GROWING UP?
I had 2 dogs and a couple of different cats growing up, all were mutts either from the pound or from someone giving them away. The funny thing is my mom only allowed us to have calico cats—to this day I don't know why. I remember Lucy, Nelson, and Libby very fondly.
