Les Lilas's program for toddlers ages 18 months to 3 years helps our youngest students to develop physical independence, emotional development, and language proficiency while engaging with their peers in a supportive and nurturing community.

LE NID

NEW! COMING 27-28

During the first three years of life, toddlers absorb new information seemingly without effort. They are constantly acquiring new skills and knowledge. Each day, they refine their motor skills, enrich their vocabulary and communication abilities, learn to navigate social interactions, and enhance their concentration and independence.

At Les Lilas, our approach to learning is carefully designed to support children in this stage of development. Lessons and activities are focused on helping children develop physical independence. Fir example, children learn to water plants, slice fruit, and wash dishes. They manipulate puzzles, make music, “read” books, and create art. They learn how to dress themselves and to use the toilet independently.

Our French-English bilingual environment naturally enriches these everyday experiences. Through songs, stories, conversations, and daily routines in both languages, toddlers develop their listening and communication skills while becoming familiar with the sounds and rhythms of French and English. At this early age, language learning happens naturally through meaningful interactions, allowing children to build their understanding of both languages at their own pace.

Our Le Nid classroom is deliberately planned to provide toddlers with a safe environment to practice movement, concentration, and develop self-confidence. Furniture and decorations are arranged with thoughtful consideration. Tables and chairs are made of wood and are the right size for children's bodies. Age-appropriate activities and supplies are accessible, placed on shelves and in cabinets that children can easily reach.

Les Lilas' Le Nid program has one classroom community. Our classroom is led by a Montessori teacher, supported by two additional educators, including a French teacher and an American teacher, providing an authentic bilingual environment. Our classroom can accommodate 12 toddlers, maintaining a 4-to-1 child-to-adult ratio.
